27-29 August 2013
3rd Arvo Pärt Centre Film Evenings

Arvo Pärt centre film evenings were again held at Katariina kirik (St. Catherine’s Church, 12 Vene Street) on 27 – 29 August 2013. This was the third year that films featuring the music of Arvo Pärt were screened on warm August evenings.

This year the focus was on documentary films.

ARVO PÄRT’S MUSIC IN FILMS

27.08 Sounds and Silence: Travels With Manfred Eicher, dir. Peter Guyer, Norbert Wiedmer, Switzerland 2009, 88′

As on previous occasions each of the films was presented with an introduction, and this year the Centre was glad to host guests directly connected with the films. Bulgarian Director, Youlian Tabakov, introduced his film “Tzvetanka”, and Jaan-Eik Tulve, the conductor of Vox Clamantis, introduced the film about Manfred Eicher, founder and producer of the ECM music label, “Sounds and Silence”. Michael Madsens environmental documentary was introduced by an Estonian biologist, nature writer and photographer Fred Jüssi. The artistic director for the film evenings is Kaarel Kuurmaa.

The films were shown with Estonian subtitles, “Sounds and Silence” and “Into Eternity” in English, “Tzvetanka” in Bulgarian language.
Tickets available through Piletilevi (4€) or at the venue before the screening commences (5€).

The film evenings 2013 and the founding of the Arvo Pärt Centre were supported by Swedbank. Thanks also go to the Danish Embassy in Estonia for their cooperation.
