Arvo Pärt awarded the Per Artem Ad Deum Medal from the Pontifical Council for Culture

On 20 June, Arvo Pärt was merited the Per Artem Ad Deum Medal from the Pontifical Council for Culture. The Pontifical Council for Culture also awarded the medal to the Polish singer and composer Antonina Krzysztoń and the Italian sculptor and goldsmith Arnaldo Pomodoro.

The Pontifical Council for Culture was established in 1982 by Pope John Paul II. The Per Artem Ad Deum medal has been awarded since 2005. Its laureates include the Italian composer and conductor Ennio Morricone, the Polish composer and conductor Krzysztof Penderecki and the Swiss architect Mario Botta.

Pope Benedict XVI nominated Arvo Pärt as a member of the Pontifical Council for Culture in 2011.
