The piano piece Für Anna Maria was commissioned by a 7-year-old girl, the daughter of the composer’s family friend, for her 10th birthday. The miniature in G major, lasting about one minute is bright and sincere in nature conveying the character of a little girl. Pärt has given the pianist two choices for interpretation: cheerfully (fröhlich) or contemplatively (nachdenklich). Für Anna Maria premiered at Nargen Festival, Estonia, in August 2006 with Arvo Pärt at the piano.
