3.30 pm pre-concert talk with conductor Kaspars Putniņš and Kristina Kõrver (Arvo Pärt Centre)
Description
On 18 January 2020, the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir led by Kaspars Putniņš will perform again on the stage at the Arvo Pärt Centre.
At 3.30 pm we invite you to listen to Kristina Kõrver (Arvo Pärt Centre) and Kaspars Putniņš discussing the works of Pärt and Schnittke to be performed at the concert.
Under the title Breath, the concert will combine the works of Arvo Pärt and Alfred Schnittke, forming a single coherent whole from contrasts navigating the thresholds of fragility and drama. The keywords for the programme – WIND, SOUL and SPIRIT – emerge from the texts underlying the compositions that speak of the soul and spirituality in their own way, lifting us up, causing us to contemplate the depths of human existence, or taking us along with the wind…
The programme will be recorded as a sequel to the album Schnittke. Psalms of Repentance (BIS Records, 2017), which won the prestigious Gramophone award a year ago.
Programme:
Arvo Pärt
– Sieben Magnificat-Antiphonen
Alfred Schnittke
– Three Sacred Hymns
– Choir Concerto
