Mikko Perkola (viola da gamba)
Description
One of the darkest Saturday nights in November will be brightened by an extraordinary duo whose recent collaboration resulted in the album “Aberdeen 1662”.
The internationally acclaimed soprano Maria Valdmaa will be accompanied by the versatile Finnish musician and viola da gamba player Mikko Perkola. Together, they will delight Estonian audiences with an exquisite combination of melancholy Scottish and English songs from the past as well as fresh improvisations. These compositions exude the crispness of northern winds, the wide expanse of the Scottish coastline and the soul’s longing for boundless freedom. The concert will alternate between Scottish secular songs printed in John Forbes’ collection “Songs and Fancies” (Aberdeen, 1662), English melodies popular already at that time, and other fancies: Mikko’s captivating improvisations on a viola da gamba.
