Ensemble Heinavanker (‘haywagon’) is a unique meeting point for a friends’ group who have been singing together for almost all their lives. Under composer Margo Kõlar the musicians explore the rich heritage of early church music, uniting ancestors’ traditions with modern time’s dreams. A prominent place in Heinavanker’s repertoire belongs to Estonian folk chants, acient runic songs as well as Estonian modern authors’ works. As the singers from a century ago handled the melodies creatively, so does Heinavaker, trying to keep their arrangements alive and developing. The ensemble’s focus at this concert is on the songs of evening service in Orthodox church, collected by the composer.
