Towers by the Sea: Laulasmaa and Kõpu. A Meeting With Composer Erkki-Sven Tüür

Composer Erkki-Sven Tüür resides in the western area of Estonia, on the Kõpu Peninsula in Hiiumaa, near the historic Kõpu Lighthouse. Similarly, the Arvo Pärt Centre also has its own viewing tower that provides wonderful views of the nearby forests and sea. Lighthouses and towers can serve as important landmarks for travelers and those navigating the landscape. Which “lighthouses” have guided Erkki-Sven Tüür’s musical journey and understanding of music?  And to what extent did his early encounters with Arvo Pärt’s music influence him?
