Sofia Gubaidulina has written symphonic and choral music, as well as many compositions for smaller and sometimes unusual musical ensembles. One of her most renowned compositions is the violin concerto Offertorium (1980) dedicated to Gidon Kremer.
In the Soviet Union, Gubaidulina belonged to a group of composers who actively communicated with each other, and shared their creative ideas, including Alfred Schnittke and Edison Denissov, Valentin Silvestrov and Arvo Pärt. As they were subjected to disfavour by the Soviet administration, such creative interaction was very important to all of them.
The Arvo Pärt Centre and the composer Arvo Pärt wish to offer heartfelt congratulations to Sofia Gubaidulina on her notable jubilee!
