Sofja Gülbadamova (piano, Germany)

Description

Sofja Gülbadamova (b. 1981) is one of the most recognised pianists of her generation. Her recognition began with winning two prestigious international piano competitions in 2008, in Aix-en-Provence and in the Francis Poulenc Piano Competition. By now, she has won many prizes in competitions both in Europe and the USA, and regularly gives solo recitals and performs as a soloist with orchestras.
Sofja Gülbadamova’s concert programme is governed by one unifying spirit. Within this, two wonderful musical bridges are present. The first of them carries the tradition of the past – the works of d’Albert, Brahms and Dohnányi were born from a glimpse into the music of the past and borne from the utmost respect for the tradition from which they sprung – primarily the tradition of Bach. These three composers lived at the same time and also knew each other personally, which makes the arch between them even stronger. Gülbadamova is committed to performing Ernst von Dohnányi’s work. Recently, she released a new album with Dohnányi’s music, recorded on the Bösendorfer piano that belonged to the composer himself.
Arvo Pärt’s Aliina has not accidentally found its place in this programme between the works of the Austrian musicologist and composer Leo Brauneiss. Almost all of Pärt’s ouvre has been analysed by Leo Brauneiss, he has delved into the nature of Pärt’s music probably more thoroughly than any other music theorist. Whether or not this is reflected in his own work, will be revealed at the concert.
