Description
Tanel-Eiko Novikov is quickly becoming one of the most prominent percussionists of his generation. In Estonia, Tanel became widely known after winning the “Classical Stars 2018” TV contest of ERR and Eesti Kontsert and representing Estonia at the Classical Eurovision Song Contest in Scotland, and is now building an international career as a soloist and chamber musician.
Tanel’s playing style is characterized by extreme sensitivity and lyricism as well as technical virtuosity, which pushes the limits of playing the instrument known so far. He performs actively in Estonia and the Nordic countries and has performed as a soloist many times on stages all over Europe and further afield, among others performing as a soloist on the stages of the St. Petersburg Maria Theater concert hall and the Henry Crown Hall of the Jerusalem Theater.
Tanel has received recognition in competitions around the world in recent years, recent achievements include placing in the top six at the 7th World Marimba Competition in Stuttgart, Germany, one of the most prestigious marimba competitions in the world, 1st place at the 19th Italy Percussion Competition, 2nd place at the Southern California Marimba Competition and winning scholarships at the Scandinavian Yamaha Scholarship Award 2023 and the Percussive Arts Society Armand Zildjian Scholarship Competition. As a chamber musician, Tanel has formed the percussion duo Rosin-Novikov and is a founding member of the Estonian Percussion Group, which was selected for the residency program of the Estonian Cultural Foundation for the years 2023-2025. Tanel was also the co-principal of the World Percussion Group’s 2023 tour in the UK, Spain and Portugal.
From 2023, Tanel-Eiko Novikov is a Yamaha artist.
