Description
Pas de Deux brings together three distinctive artistic voices – cellist Leho Karin, singer Iris Oja, and dancer-choreographer Kärt Tõnisson – in a shared exploration of sound, movement, and presence. Inspired by a work by Lithuanian composer Narbutaitė, the program unfolds as a series of intimate encounters, where music and gesture continuously respond to one another.
Rather than illustrating or accompanying, each performer inhabits the stage with a strong individual voice, meeting the others in moments of tension, resonance, and stillness. Sensitivity to the nuances of the music shapes the performance at every level, allowing subtle shifts in tone, breath, and motion to emerge with clarity and intention.
In Pas de Deux, the idea of partnership expands beyond two: it becomes a fluid dialogue between three artists, each listening deeply, each shaping the shared space, and each revealing the expressive possibilities that arise when disciplines converge.
Inspired by innovative approaches and musical experimentation, the two musicians YXUS Ensemble aims to engage and captivate listeners in unexpected and distinctive ways. YXUS is like a laboratory of bold ideas, bringing together musicians eager to experiment, as well as video artists, composers, and directors.
The performers, inspired by innovative approaches and musical experimentation, have collaborated over many years in various ensembles, including YXUS Ensemble, whose aim has been to engage and captivate listeners in unexpected and distinctive ways. This concert, in which a dancer also joins the musicians, is the first of its kind in the hall of the Arvo Pärt Centre.
