Arvo Pärt is the most performed contemporary composer in the world

The largest classical music listings website Bachtrack published today its Annual Statistics for 2022, and once again Arvo Pärt is the most performed contemporary composer in the world. Besides Arvo Pärt, the other top five include John Williams, John Adams, Thomas Adès and Philip Glass. The most performed female composer was Sofia Gubaidulina.

The most performed composers of all time in 2022 were Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Johann Sebastian Bach, Johannes Brahms and Franz Schubert. The most performed work of the year was Maurice Ravel’s La Valse.

Last year’s most active conductors were Andris Nelsons, Yannick Nézet–Séguin and Paavo Järvi.

The UK-based Bachtrack statistics included data on 27 124 musical events last year. Arvo Pärt was also the world’s most performed living classical composer for eight consecutive years between 2012 and 2019.
